Asphalt
The wet asphalt reflects the smiling street lights
Who dance and grin in the rain.
Their cheery eyes glisten with the knowledge;
Gasping into the night.
Head out the window,
Gasping for water.
Seeing the truth that lies
Where the smiles are.
Only a man enamored,
Who thirsts when quenched,
Knows, knows, knows.
Only a girl entranced,
A fool in love,
Smiles with the lights.
Lets find reality, you and I;
Dare to seek the known.
Lets spin the clock forward,
To a better place in time.
Or do you now know?
The world is glass;
Tread softly, my dear.
Let it slide, let it glow.
A rotten smell pervades the rose
An incessant odor on the air.
Be careful, my dear,
Youll find it everywhere.
It will invade your sleep
Twist your mind.
Remind you all too often
Of a better time.
Smiling asphalt shatters
And all its pieces rain,
Bleeding the two together,
Souls ensnared.
